ABARA HOUSE

BORDERLAND CENTER

Total Project: Estimated $10+ MILLION

2025 Goal: $550,000

Abara is hovering at $1.4+ Million and now only $550,000 away from full acquisition of the entire 4-acre site including predevelopment costs.

We are eager to begin the tangible restoration of the historic crossing. Original numbers and goals from 2021 are provided below. For questions, please write to nate@abara.org

A Sustainable Model for Long-Term Impact

Abara House will cover 100% of its operational costs through hospitality, events, and education, while 60% of Abara’s overall mission will be supported by earned income. Philanthropic support will continue driving Border Response, migrant shelter partnerships, online training, and global engagement. Your investment helps create a self-sustaining campus, allowing donor contributions to expand Abara’s impact beyond the borderlands.

STEWARDS OF LAND AND LOANS

We honor the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and the Mescalero Apache, two Indigenous tribes with roots in the area. We honor the magnificent heritage and heartbeat of our Mexican and Mexican-American neighbors, Chicana/o and Latina/o communities, African Diaspora, Chinese decendents, fellow El Pasoans–the blend of so many families and cultural memories, and all who first inhabited the land where Abara is invited to join others as stewards and caretakers in this place of pain, lament, healing, restoration and celebration for the common good.

TIMELINE + PHASES

The following details outline our immediate goals for partnership with you, including potential scenarios to pay back loans and immediately pursue action. For example, there are six 1,000 unit apartments behind the Historic Hacienda. An estimated 2 million would allow Abara to secure purchase and begin renovating the apartments for Border Encounter groups while providing Overflow Guest Housing with refugee and migrant families. We are still determining numbers re: additional operational funding which will give Abara a longer runway to begin generating income as a not-for-profit entity.
